Answers to Your Questions
Common questions about incubation and hatching
For chicken eggs, maintain a temperature of 99.5°F (37.5°C) for forced-air incubators or 101-102°F (38.3-38.9°C) for still-air incubators.
Turn eggs at least 3-5 times daily during the first 18 days of incubation. Stop turning 3 days before the expected hatch date.
Maintain 40-50% humidity during incubation, then increase to 65-75% during the last 3 days before hatching (lockdown period).
Chicken eggs typically hatch after 21 days of incubation. Hatching may begin on day 20 and continue through day 22.
Minimize opening the incubator to maintain stable temperature and humidity. Quick openings for turning or candling are acceptable, but avoid prolonged exposure.
